MORE ABOUT JUMP AT THE SUN
Jump at the Sun’s first list was published in Fall 1998.
Jump at the Sun takes its name from Harlem -- when Renaissance writer Zora Neale Hurston was a child, her mother encouraged her to aim high in life -- to jump at the sun.
Jump at the Sun celebrates the African-American experience – books that invite all children to embrace the beauties of black culture and share in the black experience. Books that say, “Child, this one’s for you.”
Jump at the Sun was the first of its kind in trade publishing. No other major publisher had created an African American children’s book imprint.
This imprint features a distinguished, high-profile list of authors and illustrators who are creating books across all genres, for all people, of all ages -- from history to music, picture books to young adult fiction:
Toni Morrison

Andrea Davis Pinkney

We hope you find many books to delight you in our selection of titles and invite you to celebrate the glorious diversity of our world as we embark on the next five years of publishing at Jump at the Sun.
